Privacy policy
This is my personal site. It has no accounts, no login and no database, so it collects very little. The one part worth reading properly is the AI assistant, because that sends what you say to a company that is not me.
Who this policy is from
This site (ptkdigitallabs.online) is run by Preston Tan-Kang, sole trader, trading as PTK Digital Labs, ABN 46 634 108 003, based in Melbourne, Australia. I handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
My agency site and my table tennis academy are separate businesses with their own policies. This policy covers this site only.
The short version
- There is nothing to sign up for, so I hold no account details.
- My host keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address.
- If you use the AI assistant, what you type or say goes to ElevenLabs in the United States. Voice conversations include your voice audio.
- If you email me, I have your email.
- If you book a 15-minute chat, that booking page is Google’s. You give your name, email and, for a phone call, your number.
- I do not run advertising trackers, and I do not sell or rent anyone’s information. Ever.
What this site collects
Browsing the site, without touching the assistant:
- Server logs. My host, Vercel, records your IP address, browser and device details, which pages you requested and when. This is standard hosting behaviour and I use it only to keep the site running and secure.
- A theme setting. If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is stored in your own browser. It never leaves your device and it is not personal information.
There are no contact forms, no newsletter, no advertising pixels and no analytics product on this site. The booking page is Google’s and is covered in section 05. If that changes, this policy changes with it and the date at the top moves.
The AI assistant (read this one)
The assistant in the corner of the home page and the Ask page is an AI, not me and not a person. It is built on ElevenLabs, a third-party company based in the United States, and it works by voice and by text.
When you use it:
- What you type, or what you say out loud, is sent to ElevenLabs to be processed.
- In a voice conversation, that includes an audio recording of your voice while the conversation is running.
- ElevenLabs generates the reply and may retain the conversation and transcript on its own systems, under its own privacy policy and retention settings.
- The assistant only answers from a knowledge base I wrote about my own work. It has no access to any other information about you.
Please do not tell it anything sensitive. No health information, no financial details, no passwords, and nothing about another person that they would not want shared. It is a public assistant on a portfolio site, not a private channel. If you need a private conversation, email me instead.
The assistant will not give medical, legal, financial or mental health advice, and it is not a support or crisis service. If you or someone you know needs help right now, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14, Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636, Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800, or call 000 in an emergency.
Booking a 15-minute chat
The Book a 15-minute chat buttons open a Google Calendar appointment page. That booking page is operated by Google, not by this site, and anything you enter goes to Google first and then into my calendar.
- What you give. Your name, your email address, and whatever you write in the notes. If you choose a phone call, you also give me the phone number you want me to ring.
- Your choice of format. You pick either an online meeting or a phone call when you book. If you pick an online meeting, Google creates a video meeting link for it.
- What I use it for. Only to hold the meeting and to follow up about it. I do not add you to a mailing list and there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
- Cancelling. The confirmation email Google sends you includes links to reschedule or cancel, and cancelling removes the booking from my calendar too.
Google is the operator of that booking page and handles your information under its own privacy policy, which you should read if that matters to you. Booking is entirely optional: if you would rather not use it, email me and we will sort out a time between us.
Automated decisions
I do not use AI or any automated system to make decisions about you. The assistant answers questions about my work. It does not assess you, score you, profile you or decide anything that affects your rights or interests. Any real decision, such as replying to an enquiry or taking on a piece of work, is made by me.
Who I share information with
I do not sell, rent or trade personal information. The only third parties that receive anything are the services that make this site work:
| Service | What it does | What it receives | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vercel | Hosting and content delivery for this site | IP address, browser and device details, pages requested, timestamps | United States and global edge network |
| ElevenLabs | The "Ask Preston" voice and text assistant | What you type or say, your voice audio, the conversation transcript, IP address | United States |
| unpkg (Cloudflare) | Delivers the assistant widget code to your browser | IP address and request details only. No conversation content | Global edge network |
| Google Workspace | My email inbox, if you choose to email me | Whatever you put in your email | United States and global |
| Google Calendar | The booking page, if you book a 15-minute chat | Your name, email, any notes, your phone number if you choose a phone call | United States and global |
I may also disclose information if the law requires it. That is the whole list. If I add a service, this table gets the new row before the service goes live.
Information stored overseas
The services above are based in the United States and run global networks, so information they receive is stored and processed outside Australia. I have checked each one’s published privacy terms, and under Australian Privacy Principle 8 I stay accountable for how they handle it.
If you would rather nothing left Australia, do not use the assistant. Everything on this site can be read without it.
How long things are kept
- Server logs: retained by my host for a short period on their standard schedule, then discarded. I do not copy them anywhere.
- Assistant conversations: held by ElevenLabs under its own retention settings. I do not keep my own copy.
- Emails you send me: kept while the conversation is useful, then deleted.
- Your theme setting: stays in your browser until you clear it.
If you ask me to delete something I hold, I will delete it rather than archive it, unless a law requires me to keep it.
Security
The site is static, has no login and stores no personal information of its own, which removes most of the ways a site like this leaks. What remains sits with the services in section 06, each of which runs its own security programme. Nothing online is completely secure, which is the reason for the request in section 04 not to tell the assistant anything sensitive.
Children
This site is aimed at employers, clients and collaborators, not children. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you are under 18, please do not use the assistant. If you believe a child has provided information through this site, contact me and I will have it removed.
Access, correction, deletion and complaints
You can ask me what personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Use the email button below. I will reply within a reasonable time, usually within 30 days, and I will not charge you for asking.
For anything held by ElevenLabs, I will pass your request on and help you make it directly, since that data sits on their systems rather than mine.
If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, tell me first and I will try to fix it. If that does not resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes to this policy
If I add a service, a form or a new AI feature, I update this policy before it goes live and move the date at the top. There is no mailing list to notify, so the date is the signal.
Contact
Questions about any of this come to me directly, and I reply personally.
